It seems that the business owners and entrepreneurs I talk with regularly feel one of two ways by the end of the year.
Exhausted, spent, and ready to hibernate.
Or exhausted, spent, and excited for 2019.
I get it.
It’s a heavy burden wearing all the hats in your business, being responsible for setting solid, strategic plans while staying flexible enough to tango around all the obstacles that pop up along the way with patience and style. And we still hold ourselves accountable for hitting those goals we set 11 months ago.
Usually we’re happy to see the year-past wrap up, and — if we’re not completely depleted — excited for the possibilities the new year holds in store.
2018 was a great year for me in business, and a tough year for me as daughter-of-aging-parents. I’m really yearning for some long, quiet afternoons reading, dog-walking in the woods and just sitting watching the fire.
Most of my brain and body is looking forward to winding down; however, there’s still a corner of my business brain that’s buzzing with excitement about 2019. And THAT gives me just the spark I need to evaluate this year’s numbers, set new, bolder goals, make my plans, and plan my adventures.
Here are a few things I’m excited about for 2019:
- TRAVEL! I love packing up and exploring new places. I have trips planned to Vancouver, San Diego and North Carolina in 2019, and I’m already researching fun things to do while there.
- WARMTH! I had an aha moment while planning my annual, live, 2-day Profit Matters Bootcamp. Why-oh-why ask host hotels about power-outage plans in case of winter snowstorms when I could avoid all that and move the event to sunny CALIFORNIA! (Want to come? Tickets are still available!) San Diego offers a warm welcome to me and my tribe while we pursue more profits in our business. Genius.
- SERVICE! When it comes down to it, I really do love working in my place of expertise and fun (for me) to uncover profit leaks and profit potential in my clients’ businesses. When I see an entrepreneur step into the CEO role, take control of their financials, and eliminate that feast-and-famine, roller coaster-cash flow, to-spend-or-not-to-spend confusion and frustration once and for all, it makes me feel like the Grinch on Mount Crumpet at the moment he finds the strength of ten Grinches plus two.
Even if you’re feeling, now, a bit run-over by a tough or just tiring year, take a breath and a quiet moment to reflect on WHY you’re in business, WHOM you’re serving and the outstanding RESULTS you’re delivering. Then picture a year of great clients, strong profits and exciting adventures to come.
I’m sure you have a vision of your business that lifts your spirits and puts a smile on your face. That’s the business you’re meant to run. Keep that vision front and center as we enter 2019.
